Kick Carbon Emissions to the Curb

with the Go Green Filter

As of winter 2022, there has yet to be a novel solution to the leading contributor of global warming: gas-powered automobiles.

“Gasoline-powered vehicles contribute 29% of the total greenhouse gas emissions produced in the United States (Reynolds 2021).” To put this data into context, “Climate change affects the social and environmental determinants of health – clean air, safe drinking water, sufficient food, and secure shelter. Between 2030 and 2050, climate change is expected to cause approximately 250,000 additional deaths per year, from malnutrition, malaria, diarrhea, and heat stress (WHO 2021).”

Our Mission

Our company's goal is to share our climate change-mitigating technology with the world to finally end automobile carbon emissions.

The goal of our project is not to earn money but rather to help end climate change. The only way we can share our product with the world is if we get appropriate funding from people that care about the issue as much as we do. We greatly appreciate any proceeds made to our cause.

How Does It Work?

Our filter is clamped inside the exhaust pipes of cars and serves as a habitat for algae, giving the algae the necessary conditions to perform photosynthesis, such as light and water, converting the copious amount of CO2 released into oxygen. As CO2 flows through the exhaust pipe and into the filter, the plates containing algae will capture the CO2 so that algae can perform photosynthesis. Inside the glass chambers will be a layer of proprietary aluminum wire mesh (as it has a high specific heat) holding the algae in place and water to provide the algae with fundamental nutrients. On the top of the cylinder and box portion will be strips of white light which act as the light source for the algae’s photosynthesis. Based on our Penta-plate design, the CO2 will interact with algae at five distinct plates, increasing the surface area of CO2 exposed to algae. At each plate, algae will perform photosynthesis and make O2 – a safe byproduct– and glucose which will sustain the algae. The glucose will allow the algae to rapidly reproduce, up to double in mass, and keep performing at optimal rates (ERC). The consumer will need to add water every couple of months to support the algae biome. The cylinder portion of the filter will be clamped into the exhaust pipes and the box portion outside; the clamp will allow for the filter to be adjusted to fit nearly all vehicles. The product is safe for the car because everything that the car needs to excrete is getting released, yet it’s being converted into oxygen instead of harmful CO2.

Our Numbers

We implemented our product in 20 different cars and compared the carbon dioxide emitted before and after we placed the filter in the car exhaust pipes. We used an NDIR sensor to measure the carbon dioxide output, and we found the percent reduction caused by the filter to be 74.25%. To put that in context, if all cars adopted the algae filter the total reduction would be 5.4 billion metric tons of CO2– making a significant dent in climate change.

We have sold 500+ units and have received $35,000+ in funding as of October 2023.
